This standard provides a set of requirements for a farm management system and includes best practices to ensure the production of high quality and safe produce during all phases of farm operations, including pre-production starting from nursery, production, harvesting and post-harvesting prior to delivery of aquaculture products for both land-based and open water aquaculture, while minimising impact to the environment and upholding the welfare of aquatic animals. It also includes farms using various farming systems such as net/cage farming or closed containment aquaculture systems in fresh or marine water.
This standard applies to open-cage farming, pond farming, closed containment farming systems for fish, crustaceans and molluscs. It covers the following areas of aquaculture farm production:
(a) Food safety and quality;
(b) Animal health and welfare;
(c) Environmental integrity; and
(d) Socio-economic aspects.
