Code of practice for lighting of workplaces – Part 1: Indoor (SS 531-1:2006(2019)) (Modified adoption of ISO 8995:2002)

OVERVIEW

This standard provides guidance on the lighting requirements for indoor workplaces, establishing a code of practice to ensure people can perform visual task efficiently, safely, and in comfort throughout their work duration. It addresses both the quantity and quality of illumination.

This standard applies to indoor workplaces and associated areas within the building.

This standard does not cover outdoor workplaces, exterior work areas, or the specific design and optimisation techniques required for distinct lighting systems. Additionally, detailed requirements for emergency lighting are excluded from this standard, as they are addressed under SS 563-1:2010(2017)+A1:2017, “Code of practice for the design, installation and maintenance of emergency lighting and power supply systems in buildings – Part 1: Emergency lighting”.

This standard is reviewed to ensure it remains current with technical changes, technological developments and industry practices.
Users of the standard include manufacturers and suppliers, buyers, industry associations, TIC bodies and relevant government agencies.
